CLCC Anchor October - November 2009Anchored in The Word and the Lutheran Confessions This summer went very fast, and we have been busy getting seminars scheduled for the fall, including ones in TX, NY, WA, OR and NE. The good news is a new instructor taught a class in Oct and two more are in the process of breaking in. You may think we have enough instructors . . . no way! The plan is to have regional based instructors that handle classes to keep the travel expenses down. Of course we would also have instructors that would cover other areas. We are expanding into new states constantly, and looking for more. This winter, Gene and Deanna White are taking their RV on a trip down through California to conduct six seminars over two months, our first ever seminars in that state. At the same time Pr. Harris will be conducting two seminars, in FL and MN, and Pr. Freeman will be doing one in OR, in February. This is our biggest period of activity ever, the Lord does provide! I’ve been working with Ken Erlandson, the director of Lutheran Island Camp, in Henning, MN to plan the first retreat for the CLCC. We originally tried to do this in October, but things just didn't work out. Now it will be held in the same place, on a beautiful island in central MN on February 26-27. The name of it is “Lutheran Difference: Gifts of the Liturgy”. I am looking forward to this, and hope some of you will please consider joining us for it. If you live close enough there is a Saturday only rate. We asked Rev. Dr. Karl Weber from St John’s Ottertail MN, to teach for us. I’m sure it will be very good, as he has told me the outline. I think we will all benefit and take something away from it that can help us appreciate and understand our worship better. Maybe it will also help you to explain it to your family and friends who don’t understand why the liturgy is so special for the church. We need more Lutherans to appreciate Lutheran worship again. You might want to stay a few days before or after and enjoy the area for cross-country skiing, etc. Contact the Camp Director concerning those activities at 218-583-2905.
Think also about hosting our seminar Worship and Divine Service, as it covers the history of our worship from Genesis to now, plus provides contrasts with non-orthodox styles, including the music. Special note We are having elections this month to fill some vacancies: one pastor for the Board of Directors, and one pastor for the Board of Communications Services. We will also be electing a new lay Assistant Executive Director. We did not receive any nominations for two commissioned ministers vacancies on the Board of Congregational Services, so they will remain unfilled until the next election cycle. This is a really active board, as it has the responsibility for our seminars and other teaching materials. If you have a nomination please forward the name and email address to Ginny Valleau at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , soon. Thanks to Pr. Mulholland for serving as Acting Chair of the Board of Congregational Services while the position has been vacant.
Now is also a good time to join CLCC as an individual member. Paying your $30.00 fee now will cover you this year and all of next year too. For current members, now is a good time to get your $30.00 fee in for the coming year, as the New Year will start on January 1.
As the CLCC is growing, we need more helpers to keep up with the work. We want to continue to grow, and so would appreciate it if all of you would see what you can do to help us out. One idea would be to share a copy of your newsletter with a friend, and tell more people about the CLCC. Tell them what we are trying to do, with the help of the Lord, to get people to appreciate being Lutheran again, and to learn what we believe, teach, and confess. Laura Anders has now joined our group of volunteers and has taken on the task of adding new seminars to our Website. Gene could also use some help with preparing the PR materials for new seminars as they are scheduled. We also need someone with graphic skills that could design some new materials covering CLCC activities.
Did you know that so many Lutherans do not even know what the Lutheran Confessions are, and what purpose they serve? (I was one of them not that many years ago) Print out the FAQ BOC is available on our Website www.theclcc.org and share it with your friends. It will give you an opener to explain the CLCC to them. Ask about hosting a seminar in your church. Our seminars have been well received. We invite people to the seminars from all the Lutheran churches in your area when you host one. This can be a good way to get to know your neighbors. Also, consider using our CLCC brochure as a bulletin insert so people will come to know there are Lutheran resources available. Our Website has links to other good Lutheran sites on it, too.
